Lifeboat Davit Test & Inspection on Ship (Part 2)

These guidelines define the onboard test for the Lifeboat Davit Freefall Type

PURPOSE
This article aims at confirming the satisfaction required by the Ship Owner/Ship Classification through the onboard test for the lifeboat.

FREE-FALL TYPE LIFEBOAT TEST METHOD
1- Use a recovery davit under a weight of W1 for the lifeboat lowering test to test the lowering and brake

* W1 WEIGHT = 1.1 × (WEIGHT WITH EQUIPMENT + 3 PERSON WEIGHT)

2- Use a recovery davit at the weight of W1 for the lifeboat recovery test to test the hoisting and brake

Carry out the boat recovery test in the reverse sequence of lowering test.

 

3- Use the recover davit at the full load condition of weight to test the lowering and brake.

* FULL LOAD CONDITION = 1.1×(BOAT WEIGHT WITH EQUIPMENT + (ONBOARD CREWS×75Kg))

4- Carry out the free fall test by ejecting the boat from the securing device by operating the release pump installed outside the boat at the full load condition for the free-fall launching test (full load condition)
